SEOUL - Samsung Electronics ranked sixth in the global cell phone market last year with a 5 percent share, a 0.4 percentage point growth year-on-year, Connectis magazine said.

Nokia topped the list, followed by Motorola, Ericsson, Siemens and Panasonic, the European e-business magazine reported.

Nokia maintained the No. 1 spot with a 30.6 percent of the market share, a 3.7 percentage point rise, and Motorola held a 14.6 percent share, a 2.3 percentage point decline.

Ericsson and Siemens ranked third and fourth respectively with 10 percent and 6.5 percent, followed by Panasonic with 5.2 percent.

In terms of growth rate, Nokia came in first place with 65.5 percent and Samsung was second with 59 percent. Siemens ranked third with 52.6 percent.

These six companies captured 72 percent of the world cell phone market.
