Two scholarships honoring former Korea Times columnist Joo-Han Kang and his wife, Sok-Won Choe Kang, have been established at the Golden Gate Korean Presbyterian Church in San Francisco.

The $2,000 scholarships, created by their children, K. Connie Kang and Emmanuel Kang, is designed to help needy Korean American students attending colleges and universities.

The establishment of the scholarships was announced at the May l3 memorial service in San Francisco for Joo Han Kang, who served as an elder at the Golden Gate Korean Presbyterian Church. Kang, who taught English at Seoul National University, and worked as a businessman after immigrating to the United States, was president of the Korean American Heritage Foundation. He died on May l3, l998.

Mrs. Kang, a former schoolteacher who gave generously to help blind youngsters in South Korea and North Korean food relief, died on Aug. 1, 1999.

Winners of the scholarship will be announced at a memorial

service for Mrs. Kang on Aug. 5 at the Golden Gate Korean Presbyterian Church.

Students interested in applying are asked to send their application with a letter and resume to the Elder Joo-Han Kang and Mrs. Kang Scholarship Foundation, Golden Gate Korean Presbyterian Church, 1011 Garfield St., San Francisco, Ca., 94132 by July 1.
