Carine Topal is poet-in-residence for the City of Manhattan Beach and the author of God As Thief, which was published by Amagansett Press in 1994. Her poems have appeared in Caliban, Pacific Review, Americas Review, Prose Poem and many other magazines and anthologies. Affiliated with the non-profit organization, Poets In The Schools, Topal teaches poetry workshops in Manhattan Beach as well as special education students in Inglewood.
Chungmi Kim is the author of Chungmi — Selected Poems and The Dandelion. Born in South Korea, Kim’s work has been published in numerous journals and anthologies including Grand passion: The Poets of Los Angeles and Beyond, Amerasia Journal and Between Ourselves. In 1994, she was chosen to read at the special presentation at the Library of Congress. Other readings she has given include ones at the L.A. Poetry Festival, KPFK radio, KCET-TV, the San Francisco Poetry Festival and the University of Washington, as well as for the Poetry Society of America’s poetry in Motion project in 1999. In addition to her work in poetry, Kim is also a well-respected playwright, whose play Hanako had its world premiere at the East West Players in Aril 1999. In January 1999 Kim was selected as one of the Los Angeles Times’ "Faces to Watch in 1999."
