Brian Thompson (50), the CEO of the insurance division of UnitedHealth Group, the largest health insurer in the United States, was fatally shot in the heart of Manhattan early on the morning of the 4th, according to reports from Bloomberg and other U.S. media outlets.

According to the reports, Thompson was shot by a man wearing a black mask near the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan at around 6:46 a.m. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told the New York Post that the suspect had been loitering near the hotel before the incident.

Thompson was scheduled to attend an annual investor event at the Hilton Hotel at 8 a.m. that day.

The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle immediately after the shooting. Police are currently pursuing the suspect.

Thompson had served as the CEO of UnitedHealth Group’s insurance division since 2021.
